Puma Just Roped In A Royal As Their Newest Brand Ambassador

As far as Puma is concerned, business is booming. Last week, the Italian footwear brand reported a record sales and profits for the first quarter of 2019, crediting their latest venture into the basketball market, intriguing campaigns, a diverse product line-up and ‘strategic collaborations’ for the same. After roping in Virat Kohli and acclaimed boxer Mary Kom, Puma has taken aboard Sara Ali Khan as their newest brand ambassador in India. To announce the partnership Puma took an unconventional route, wherein Sara was spotted on Carter Road in Mumbai with a spray can, doodling on a graffiti-laden wall. “Strong is the new pretty, fierce is the new fab,” read the slogan which was inspired by the ethos of the brand’s ‘Do You’ campaign.

"Sara truly embodies what PUMA stands for—she is brave, fierce, confident, and fun, with a strong influence among the youth,” said Abhishek Ganguly, the Managing Director of Puma India, of the new alliance. Sara went on to add, “When associating with a brand, it is important for me to be with the one that compliments my personality and lifestyle. I strongly believe that if one has no inhibitions about expressing who they truly are, then they can stand out even without a spotlight. Puma has always encouraged women to express their individuality, whether in the field of sports or beyond it, and that resonates very well with me.”

Puma kickstarted the ‘Do You’ campaign in 2016 as a vehicle to empower women and champion individuality. The movement was backed by major names spanning industries globally that included supermodels Cara Delevigne, Ujjwala Raut, and Lisa Haydon; actors Jacqueline Fernandez and Kalki Koechlin; adventure junkies Tashi and Nungshi Malik; and dancers Sucheta Pal and Olivia Boisson.

With the success of their tactical media campaigns, Selena Gomez and Adriana Lima as global brand ambassadors, and several lucrative collaborations including those with Rihanna, Jay Z, and The Weeknd, it’s no surprise that Puma is leading the sportswear bandwagon. And we can’t wait to see what’s next.
