Bid Your Dainty Baubles Adieu As Statement Jewellery Makes A Comebackby | May 09, 2019
The last few years were all about dainty and minimal jewellery. Delicate layered trinkets became a favourite with the ‘IT’ crowd. But if we know anything about fashion trends, it is that they are cyclical. At the Spring Summer 2019 shows this time around, over-the-top pieces lit up the runways.
At Dior we saw gilded logo-bearing chokers, sculptural pieces took centre-stage at Oscar de la Renta, while gold-laden, layered charm necklaces punctuated boxy blazers at Chanel. Alexander McQueen’s standout baubles were encrusted with oversized crystals and shoulder-skimming chandelier earrings stole the show at Ralph Lauren. Alessandro Michele sent models down the runway dripping in diamantes at Gucci, whereas Dries Van Noten reimagined stacked rings in colourful stones and, at Valentino, architectural hoops complemented the casually tailored couture pieces. Moreover, Escada continued ’80s revival with chunky chains and XXL heart-shaped pendants.
Off the runways too, maximalist jewellery was in heavy rotation amongst front row attendees, street style regulars, and major influencers through fashion month.
So, whatever your sartorial choice may be for the day, dial it up a notch with head-turning necklaces, earrings, rings, and bracelets (which we prefer to stack for maximum impact). Cast aside the dainty jewels, and get shopping for statement pieces via our carefully curated edit.
