Is Apple’s Next Big Announcement The iPhone We’ve Been Waiting For?

Are you ready for September? We’re not talking about stocking up on fashion issues of your favourite glossies—it’s the month that the new iPhone is finally unveiled. While Samsung announced its flagship contender, the Note 10, a few days back and OnePlus will be revealing the OnePlus 7T by the end of the month. Apple, unlike most smartphone companies, holds onto the tradition of announcing its smartphone line-up once a year. The Cupertino-based tech giant may not enjoy the glory it used to but when its annual event rolls around, the internet is brimming with rumours.

When you pay close attention to the conversation going on within the internet’s tech community, you realise that they’re not waiting for the Apple event, they already have all the details. Before the grand reveal, we’ve listed out all the important rumours about the new iPhone.

Here’s what you should expect from the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone Pro Max.

A Special Accessory Is Arriving

The biggest speculation this year is that the iPhone 11 will come with a stylus aka the Apple Pencil. We heard this rumour first when Apple released the iPhone 6, way back in 2014.  In 2015, we saw the first look at the $99 Apple Pencil but it was unveiled exclusively for the iPad Pro line-up. So, how do we know for certain if this is the year we’ll see one that is compatible with the iPhone? Several prominent phone case makers, who have been privy to early designs in the past, have leaked designs of an iPhone cover that has space for a stylus-style attachment on its back.

Interestingly, 12 years back, Steve Jobs mocked the stylus while revealing the first touchscreen smartphone. His exact words were, “Who wants a stylus? You have to get 'em, put 'em away, and you lose 'em, yuck. Nobody wants a stylus.” Under Tim Cook's leadership, this isn’t the first time the company has steered away from its founder's vision.

Will The Camera Finally Compete With Google Pixel’s?

It’s no secret that Apple doesn’t offer the best smartphone camera in the market. Top tech reviewers have time and again picked Samsung and Google offerings above Apple’s. This year the question remains the same: will the new phone shoot better in low-light areas and deliver DSLR-quality snaps?

According to the grapevine, the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Max will boast a three-camera setup, instead of the two seen on last year’s iteration. The brand new cameras on the three smartphones are expected to come with a wide-angle lens which will help capture a larger surface area. Another exciting feature grabbing attention is ‘Smart Frame’— a technology that uses artificial intelligence to automatically edit images. According to a report in Bloomberg, Apple might also be coming up with a video editing feature that allows you to change the lighting, colour, and apply effects while shooting footage in real-time.

Will The Battery Last Longer Than A Day?

All Apple loyalists want is a battery that survives two days and a charging cord that doesn’t tear within a year. While we have no word on the company strengthening their wiring covers, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the iPhone 11 line-up will have a battery that's up to 25% bigger. Not just that, we have word that they’re working on fast charging capabilities as well.

The larger conversation on the web is about the moves Apple needs to make to re-establish its position in the market. Overall, we can expect Apple to keep the iPhone's design intact, and play around with the internal changes—think a beefier battery, a faster processor and a buttery-smooth interface. Since Apple’s grand event is scheduled for the 10th of September, we don’t have to wait too long to see what’s in store.
